vegan-1161192__180 Figures published today by the Vegan Society show that there are three and half times as many vegans as there were in 2006, making it one of the fastest growing lifestyle movements! This year will see the German supermarket chain ‘Veganz – We Love Life’ opening its first branch in the UK, offering over 6,000 vegan products. The tofu eating, crystal powered, Birkenstock wearing vegan is now rapidly becoming an image of the past. The reality is that vegans come from all walks of life. Kirly-Sue- vegan cook, author, tv presenter and vegan life styler said "I am pleased that more people seem to have enough information about veganism so that they can make an informed decision about what they eat, we still have a long way to go to teach our nation so that they can still choose what they want to eat, but with more knowlegde on the options available" At least 542,000 people in Britain are now following a vegan diet – up from estimates of 150,000 ten years ago. With a population of around 63 million, that's less than one per cent. This is very encouraging to read especially if you are an animal lover, concerned about the planet and also concerned about your health. MORI, and have surveyed almost 10,000 people aged 15 or over across England, Scotland and Wales – the biggest ever poll quantifying the vegan community.
