Vegan recipes can have the stereotype of being bland, boring or just yuck. I have come across some recipes that I am not sure what the thinking was behind the creation. My theory is that you have to give your vegan recipe your own style and make it true to who you are. Give it texture, excitement, taste and the flavours that you like.
In addition it is good to try the flavours that may not be your own personal ones but they are what you like. For example I am not Mexican but I like Mexican food and I will try vegan dishes with a Mexican twist or Mexican inspiration.
I am often asked how to make vegan dishes from my country of origin which is Jamaica. I was born and raised in London and when I was 5 years old my parents took me and my sisters back to Jamaica, so we could benefit from their very good education system and learn about our culture. My Great Aunt owned a restaurant called Cookie’s (That was her nick name) and I think that is where I got my “cooking genes” from ….. but I digress :0)
